Thematic collections are curated sets of papers that present a timely snapshot of research in a topic of high current interest and importance. Edited by experts in the field, invited contributions undergo peer review to the normal Petroleum Geoscience standards and are made available online upon acceptance. The papers are collated on a dedicated collection webpage on an ongoing basis which ensures that this significant research is visible to the community at the earliest opportunity.
If you are interested in proposing a thematic collection in Petroleum Geoscience then please contact [email protected]. Please provide a brief proposal for the Editorial Board to consider that outlines the aims and scope of the thematic collection, the guest editors and the envisaged contributions.
On-going collections

Energy Geoscience Series: provides a channel for the anticipated growth in non-petroleum related aspects of geoenergy and applied earth science in Petroleum Geoscience. Submissions are welcome from all.
Read the current thematic collections:

New learning from exploration and development in the UKCS Atlantic Margin: This collection aims to highlight how the advances in geoscientific understanding of the UKCS and wider Atlantic margin has underpinned recent exploration, discoveries and field developments.

Geopressure: This collection results from a conference on the topic ‘Geopressure 2021: Managing uncertainty in geopressure by integrating geoscience and engineering’, hosted by Durham University and the Geological Society of London.
Read the completed thematic collections:

Geoscience for CO2 storage: The goal of this thematic collection is to bring together wide-ranging strands of research and current practice to illustrate recent progress and future directions.

Fault and Top Seals: This thematic collection comprises contributions to the fifth EAGE conference about fault and top seal analysis.

Under-Explored Plays and Frontier Basins of the UK Continental Shelf: This thematic collection provides important new insights into the lesser known plays and under-explored petroleum systems of the UKCS, but also highlights generic learnings that can be applied to global counterparts.

Mechanics of salt systems: state of the field in numerical methods: This thematic collection captures some of the latest developments in modelling micro- and macro-structural salt behaviour, as well as the interaction between salt and basin sediments.

Naturally Fractured Reservoirs: This thematic collection addresses some of the complexities associated with naturally fractured reservoirs in detail.

Rifts III: Catching the Wave: This thematic collection represents a cross-section of the content from the Rifts III: Catching the Wave conference, Geological Society, London, 22–24 March 2016.

Tectonics and Petroleum Systems of East Africa: This thematic collection makes progress in constraining some of the key tectonic interpretations of East Africa.

Geological storage of CO2, gas and energy: This thematic collection captures examples on long-term geological storage of CO2 and the shorter-term cyclic storage of energy.
Fault and top seals: This thematic collection emerged out of the 4th EAGE Conference on Fault and Top Seals held in Almeria, Spain, 20-24 September 2015.

The Messinian salinity crisis: This thematic collection collects studies of the Mediterranean region, particularly those dealing with the Messinian sequence, from both academic and exploration viewpoints.
Geomodel uncertainty: This thematic collection explores how geomodelling tools should be used to best effect, and when such tools mislead or do not add value.
The North Falkland Basin revisited: exploration and appraisal of the Sea Lion Field: This thematic collection describes the recent advances in understanding of the structural development, stratigraphic evolution and sedimentary history of the North Falkland Basin
